First Lutheran School

First Lutheran is a K – 12th grade program on two campuses located in the northeast San Fernando Valley. Our campuses are conveniently located near the foothills between the 210, 5, and the 118 freeways. Our teachers and staff members are experienced and dedicated educators, choosing to work in this very special mission field.

 

First Lutheran School is operated as the mission arm of First Evangelical Lutheran Church of San Fernando, a member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The church and its congregation have been a vital part of the community since 1923. The grade school was established in September 1950. The school flourished and grew to include junior high school classes, and finally senior high school classes. In 1977, the first class of First Lutheran High School was graduated. The school continued to grow, making the purchase of the high school site, 2 miles down the street, a necessity in 1983. The current junior and senior high school site has expanded to 7 acres. The church is currently building on this site a new facility with a gymnasium, state of the art auditorium, and additional classrooms to allow continued growth.

 

The elementary school has traditional classrooms for kindergarten through sixth grade. The class sizes are small with one grade per class, allowing teachers to give maximum attention to the emotional and academic needs of his/her students. Students are challenged by our standard based curriculum that also teaches and affirms Christian values. A full physical educational program keeps our students fit. Each class also has weekly computer class and library privileges. Enrichment programs for music, dance, martial arts, and Mad Science are available on campus. There is a competitive sports program for students in 4th -6th grades. The church and elementary school are located at the corner of Maclay and Glenoaks, in the city of San Fernando. Weekly chapel services for the school are held in the church sanctuary.

 

First Lutheran Jr./Sr. High is a college preparatory school, accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and by the National Lutheran Schools Association. The high school campus is located on Glenoaks Blvd., between Bledsoe and Cobalt., in the city of Sylmar. We have established a fine Christian curriculum balanced with academics, sports, music, and the arts. We strive to provide  the consistent message of the “Living Word of God,” which encourages and supports a personal relationship with the Lord along with a nurturing educational atmosphere that fosters success. Our weekly church service is held in our outside Chapel Area.
