Administrator's Message

Dear Parents of Perspective Students,

We welcome you to explore and enjoy our web-site. Our hope and prayer is that you will find First Lutheran School to be the best match for your child's educational, spiritual, and emotional needs. Below you will find First Lutheran's Statement of Philosophy, Statement of Purpose, and the History of our School Symbol.

STATEMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
First Lutheran Schools' philosophy is centered in the inspired and inerrant Word of God. Its Faculty, Administration, and Board of Education believe that Jesus Christ is the center of education and that the school is an extension of the church and home. We believe that each student is a unique and precious gift of God and that teachers are instruments of God's Spirit. Through direction and example, students are prepared for responsible living by learning all subjects in light of God's Word. We believe that we not only prepare our students educationally, but also guide them spiritually toward their eternal life in Jesus Christ.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
First Lutheran School exists with the distinct purpose of providing a Christ-centered, quality education for young people of the San Fernando Valley area. In seeking to foster this purpose we:

  1. assist the Christian home and church in their God given responsibility to train the children of God;
  2. teach God's Word, increase the student's knowledge of God, and stimulate his/her baptismal relationship with Jesus Christ;
  3. help students identify themselves as children of God and as members of Christ's body in all they say, think and do;
  4. develop alert, skillful, and responsible Christian citizens who serve their Lord and neighbor as a demonstration of their faith;
  5. provide a rigorous academic background and skills to meet the challenges of higher education and adulthood.

FIRST LUTHERAN SCHOOL SYMBOL

True education begins with and is based upon the Word of God. It is only in the Bible that we learn of the true God. The intertwined semicircles remind us that God is Triune-three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, in one being. He is without beginning and without end.

The three basic institutions of society (home, church, and school) are placed inside the semicircles. If they are to be successful, the Grace, Love and Mercy of God must surround them. The home is the most important institution. It is given the responsibility to raise children unto the Lord. Where true Christian education occurs best, the home, church and school work together. They share common values, common faith and common purpose.

The center of our emblem forms a cross and an anchor. Christ Jesus is our Lord and Savior. When our faith is centered in Him, it is securely anchored. For there is "none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved."

Thank you and God bless you. We look forward to making you a part of the First Lutheran Family!
