Academic Integrity
Academic Integrity
First Lutheran is not just an academic institution. It is also an institution that strives to empower students with skills and guidelines in how to live a responsible, honest, and productive life. To that end, several of the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results address these qualities:
By the time students at First Lutheran School graduate, they will...
Faith
- Know that they are saved by grace through faith in Christ.
- Learn and apply Biblical truth through daily living, devotions, prayer and worship ( Eph. 2:8-10)
Learn
- Develop communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills in all curricular areas.
- Demonstrate teamwork and develop goals for life-long learning. (Prov. 4:13)
Serve
- Demonstrate respect and responsibility toward others.
- Serve others within the school community and community at large. (Micah 6:8)
Cheating is defined as, but not limited to, the following:
- Copying or allowing to be copied any assignment by any method.
- Using any unauthorized aid on quizzes, tests, or exams.
- Stealing, possessing, or viewing a copy of a test beforehand.
- Giving or receiving help on a test.
- Taking someone else’s work and submitting it as your own.
- Scanning, altering, or forging any school document.
- Plagiarizing (meaning you submit material written or designed by someone else without giving the author/creator credit or naming the source, or submitting work created by family, friends, or tutors).
Remember – You are cheating yourself of genuine learning when you copy or cheat in any manner.
Strategies to use in place of cheating:
- When you are falling behind in a class, ask for help from the teacher.
- Ask successful students to share their study habits tips, rather than copying their work.
- Ask your teacher to organize study groups before major tests.
- Accept the fact that some learning requires serious, even tedious effort.
- Pray that God will take the temptation of cheating from you.
